About Shoe Slug
I am a singer, ukulelist, and painter.
But before anything else, I am an artist.
Art and music have been a huge part of my life since I can remember. My family is full of art lovers and skilled musicians. I was exposed to a wide variety of film, music, artists and live performance at a very young age. I have always been encouraged to create, which I am forever grateful for.
I've been releasing audio and visual projects since 2009 under various aliases, starting out with experimental comedy skits on YouTube. Later on, I picked up the ukulele and began writing my own music. This led to an increase in community performances and school talent shows.
In high school, I began taking film classes and created a sitcom on local access television called Skit Chat. This became my main focus for many, many years. During that time I would upload to YouTube and begin to post SoundCloud releases. All of these steps eventually gave me the opportunity to perform in various cities and venues around the North Shore.
After years of performing songs without releasing them, I decided around 2024 that it was time to start recording- no matter how imperfect I think the outcome is.
I currently record songs from the comfort of my bedroom, surrounded by my favorite art pieces, an ever-expanding trinket collection, and a glorious mess of instruments I’ve accumulated over the years. This includes (but is not limited to): a ukulele, an omnichord, a melodica, a family of harmonicas, a theremin and a didgeridoo.
My sound changes depending on whatever emotions I'm processing that week, so expect a little bit of everything: experimental alt-folk, ukulele jazz, and plenty of vocal experimentation in between (including the occasional rap feature).
Whether it’s an original tune, a collaboration with someone I love, or a genre-bending cover, my goal is to share my little world and hope it resonates with a fellow human- or slug. This site will be an ongoing project, so keep an eye out for new additions!
Stay well, move slow and thanks for stopping by.
P.S. If anyone is interested in joining a band to learn and perform my original music and or write new music, please email: 2shoeslug@gmail.com
INSPIRATIONS
I am drawn to creatives who aren’t afraid to get strange, experimental, bend genres, and do whatever they want. I tend to let my perfectionism prevent me from releasing more art, which is why I am drawn to these kinds of artists. Though my inspirations are constantly evolving, throughout the years I feel obligated to acknowledge and thank the following artists for their significant inspiration in my life:
- The Beatles
- Happy Mondays
- Talking Heads
- Lady Gaga
- Animal Collective
- Daniel Johnston
- Arthur Russell
I turn to these artists to remind myself to always trust my creative process and someone out there will undoubtedly connect with it.
